There are also a number of abilities to try out against a decent number of enemy types across quite a few different unique areas of the game. What is there to enjoy right now is a whole bunch of weapons to explore and play with. Dead Cells feels far from done though, but it shows a ton of promise if there’s more content to be added down the line. In concept, the combination of these two genres is absolutely incredible. Either way, these items gate your progress and you’ll need to face tough enemies to earn them. There’s an ability to instantly create a hanging vine where the game permits and another that allows you to transport between Sarcophagi. In Dead Cells, you’ll also need to find special abilities that allow you to get to places in the world that you couldn’t get to before. Where Dead Cells differs somewhat is in that the power of your character and increasing enemy difficulty isn’t the only thing that is gating your progress. The flip side of this, if you don’t make it to the Collector you’ll lose all the cells that you’ve accumulated. This collector allows you turn in your cells for items, power-ups, and other items that will help you progress further and further into the game. Killing enemies earns you cells, and these cells can be spent if you make it what is known as the collector. Doing so is where they wrangle in elements of the Dark Souls series of games. Defeating that enemy will unlock the Teleportation Rune. Heading down there will lead to an Elite enemy. He will inform The Prisoner to retrieve his rune by jumping down the nearby gap. Interacting with them will reveal an NPC. At some point on the journey through the sewers, a set of prison bars can be seen. The Teleportation Rune can be accessed from this area. The Sewers are home to Zombies, Scorpions, Disgusting Worms, and Undead Archers. The Toxic Sewers have some enemies from the Prisoners' Quarters, as well as some new annoying enemies. This is done by ground-pounding the floor when there is a brown rune present. The path will naturally lead to the Ramparts however, upon obtaining the Ram rune from the Ossuary, the Ancient Sewers can be accessed. The green liquid here acts as a trap and will damage The Prisoner over time if he stays in it for long enough. You can climb the brown pipes in the background, although it does not look possible. The toxic sewers are a little confusing as they are full of both vertical and horizontal passageways. ![]()
