Although it may take more time to tan the hides, the Al Kharid bank is near the Al Kharid tanner and so it is relatively easy to tan hides. A player can also create soft leather which can be tanned for free resulting in a profit of 125. To make more money, a player may tan their hides into hard leather and sell it for 123 coins more than a cowhide. It also grants combat experience, making it an activity worthy of a new player's time and effort. Killing cows can often be beneficial for low-level free players as the cowhides and raw beef obtained can be sold for a decent profit. I expected to be slow at first but i feel like this gap is ridiculous. Guides on the wiki and youtube claim it is possible to do 60k hides an hour on RS3, but I am capping out around 24k an hour or so. Of course I was drawn in by the low skill requirement, but high profit. On the downside, cows are more scattered compared to Lumbridge's cow field. Secret to tanning hides Just started tanning dragonhide recently. The best place for Free-to-play players to kill cows for cowhides is the field northwest of Lumbridge because players may deposit their cowhides and raw beef they obtained with Beefy Bill, who charges a 10% commission. The Tower of Life quest must be done before Creature Creation can be accessed. Cowhides are also used in Creature Creation to create Unicows. Soft and hard leathers can then be crafted into various pieces of equipment through the Crafting skill. Run further north to the Bank Gnome, bank the leather, run back to the cow pen, and repeat. ![]() Tanners can be found in Al Kharid, the Ranging Guild, Varrock, Taverley, Canifis and the Crafting Guild. Once you have 28 cowhides, run slightly north to Jack Oval, who will tan them into hard leather for 3 coins each. If it is brought to a tanner, it can be turned into soft leather for free or hard leather for 3 coins. Cowhides are dropped by cows when they are killed. ![]()
